Party Of Internet Pirates - Sweden

August 10th, 2009

August 2009

The Pirate Party is now Swedens third largest political party with the biggest youth membership. Committed to reforming laws on copyright and patents, theyre fighting increasing government surveillance.
When the founders of file-sharing website The Pirate Bay were charged with aiding copyright infringement, The Pirate Party once again found themselves in the spotlight. The Partys steadily growing membership, suddenly rocketed. When they wanted to turn off Internet sharing, I was so angry, I had to do something explains young pirate Snild Dolkow. The Pirate Party aims to loosen the stranglehold the law has on intellectual property and inspire innovation and culture. But for those fighting against the Pirates, they believe theyre protecting the original creators. It is about the protection of professional content, without which there is nothing.

bladeere14, what if an artist is making a living out his/her art?

I’d say you are not employed if you get compensated. Work for free! If you want to receive money for the work you have performed you are not a true worker. Why do you expect to get payd? You need food and shelter? Get it for free, according to your logic it should be free. Take your neighborhs house, tell him to off. Free house, alrigh! Makes sense, right?

if an artist, does not want his music shared with others unless he gets money, he is not a real artist.

    The problem is when …
The problem is when you create software you just make it once and then keep selling the same thing. When you build houses you need supplies and work for every house. By creating law restrictions you make clients pay actually big money for almost nothing. This way companies such as Microsoft that invented almost nothing, that only sell others’ ideas earn huge cash.

    Information is free …
Information is free. Plastic discs are not. You can profit from plastic discs but you can’t profit from information. Thus, the pirate party has to contend with the powerful lobbyists who will have bought and paid for many politicians.
